Product Description
The first Shunyata Research Power distributor with Australian/New Zealand outlets! Available now.
~ Australian Model Only ~
The VENOM AU8 is a high performance power distributor designed specifically for the Australian audiophile.
High-end home entertainment systems can be very complex and quite costly with components that cost thousands to tens of thousands. And yet the performance potential of the entire system can be compromised by the choice of power delivery products including the power distributor.
The VENOM AU8 is the embodiment of designer Caelin Gabriel’s never ending quest to engineer products that not only deliver peerless performance but also possess exceptional value and build quality. The AU8 is designed to fit behind a rack or cabinet for ease of use. It’s high capacity eight outlets and quality construction make it an ideal choice for video systems, media systems, recording systems and high-end audio power distribution applications.
Many of the same premium parts and hand-craftsmanship that have earned the HYDRA Series products multiple awards and professional endorsements are also used in the AU8 — with the most significant difference being the AU8’s extraordinarily affordable price!
The AU8 is designed for a life-time of dependable service with a chassis constructed of heavy gauge powder coated steel and a beautiful stainless steel top plate.
The VENOM AU8 has several applications including:
• Media Centers and Home Theaters
• Power System Expansion
• Purist Power Distribution
• Noise reduction and surge protection
CCI™ Component-to-Component Interference Traditional power conditioners are designed to block noise coming in from outside the home but do not address the noise that is generated by the electronic component’s themselves. In fact, many conditioners reflect noise back onto other components that are connected to the power conditioner. We call this CCI™ (Component-to-Component Interference) and believe it is one of the most significant but often overlooked aspects to power system performance. Shunyata Research has developed several noise reduction technologies to control CCI™interference without using heavy transformers, coils or large capacitors. |
Distributed Power Conditioning Power Distributors: Shunyata power distributors supply power to multiple components while intercepting incoming power line RFI and EMI while also addressing CCI™ by reducing component-to-component interference. The use of DTCD™ Analysis has enabled Shunyata Research to develop multiple noise reduction technologies that do not compromise instantaneous current delivery. Noise Reduction Power Cables: Shunyata Research has developed several “noise reduction” power cables that measurable reduce power supply generated noise. The noise is intercepted by the power cord and dissipated before it has the opportunity to propagate throughout the power system. Pocket Power Conditioner: The VENOM DEFENDER is a unique “pocket power conditioner” that was designed for a remotely located single component. It plugs directly into the AC duplex eliminating the need for a conventional power conditioner and the associated power cabling. i.e. A SONOS™ single-box audio component supplying music to a den or bedroom.

OFE 3.3mm Power Wire The internal wiring in a power conditioner is absolutely critical to the performance. The wiring will determine the overall current carrying capacity of the unit and can dramatically affect the perceived audio and video performance.Shunyata Research produces its own 3.3 mm2 power wire made from Alloy 101 OFE which is the highest purity of copper available and is the only grade of copper that comes with a written certification of purity. The wire then undergoes advanced cryogenic treatment using our on-site Cryogenics International computer controlled facility. The VENOM AU8 is wired with dual wires for a massive aggregate gauge over 6 mm2. |
HUBBELL C20 InletWe find it interesting that many so called audiophile grade power conditioners actually use a common standard computer grade power inlet. The IEC C14 inlet has relatively small electrical contacts and has feeble power cable grip and it is only rated at a maximum of 15 amps of current. Ridiculous! Even our entry level VENOM PS8 power distributor is fitted with a HUBBELL IEC C20 inlet. This inlet is physically larger with contacts that are massive compared to the C14. The contact grip strength is light years beyond the common computer grade inlet. And it gets treated in Shunyata Research’s cryogenic plant for improved performance. |

“Trivial” Terminals and Connectors There are some parts that are considered trivial and insignificant by some engineers and designers. Small ring terminals and spades that are used to connect internal wiring, terminals and switches are good examples. Shunyata Research’s DTCD™ Analyzer demonstrates that these parts can be very detrimental to transient current delivery and can adversely affect sonic quality. Shunyata Research actually designs and makes a wide variety of these small parts using superior metals and platings for each specific application. This is just a small example of the extreme lengths that we will go to in the pursuit of superior performance in our products! |
|
ArNi™ Cryogenic Treatment ArNi™ Cryogenic Treatment Process that is more advanced than the conventional nitrogen based procedure. Many of the critical signal and power conductors used in our reference products are treated using the ArNi process. This procedure noticeably enhances the performance of the treated parts. Shunyata Cryogenic Treatment Plant Shunyata Research operates its own onsite cryogenic treatment facility. We use computer controlled equipment from Cryogenics International. Liquid nitrogen is used to reduce the temperature of the contents to -320 degrees fahrenheit. The computer monitors and lowers the temperature by a single degree at a time to prevent thermal shock. We use this process to improve the performance of wire, conductors, connectors and terminals that are used in our power products and signal cabling. |
Shunyata Isolation Footer Power distributors react very similar to amplifiers in relationship to floor borne vibration. We have tested dozens of commercially available feet and determined that none of them were adequate for use with our products. After researching multiple forms of energy dissipation methods, we developed a footer that possesses excellent vibration absorbing characteristics. We also produce several types SSF stainless steel feet for our power conditioners. |
|
Vibration Management Materials Shunyata Research recognizes that vibration control is important to the overall performance of our products. Our power distributor chassis’ are made with heavy gauge steel or aluminum not plastic or thin wall sheet metal. We have developed our own accelerometer test instrument that detects extremely low levels of vibration. We use it in the developed of vibration absorbing materials such as energy absorbing footers, AC outlet gaskets and chassis dampeners that measurably reduce resonant vibration within the power distributor. |
Media Centers and Home Theaters
The VENOM AU8, with its generous eight outlets, is the perfect solution for complex home entertainment and media systems. The exceptional current capacity and power rating ensures unfettered performance even when high-current amplifiers are used.
The narrow profile of the AU8 allows it to be placed behind a cabinet needing less than 13 cm between the wall and cabinet.
All of the power cords plug-in from the top of the unit for easy access.
